Morning Bliss ! Authentic Nawabi Breakfast : RAJA HOTEL,Charbagh,Lucknow.
Hello friends,
How are you all ? I hope you all are doing good and eating healthy.
No matter in which part of the world you live, if you are a Non-vegetarian , you may have early morning cravings for Non-vegetarian food. Today instead of having the usual, I decided to have an authentic Nawabi breakfast ie KHAMIRI ROTI - PAYA.

An Introduction to PAYA & KHAMIRI ROTI :-

The area is always congested with tempos, auto-rickshaws and buses as it is near Charbagh Railway Station , Lucknow. I parked my vehicle infront of the shop and then I went inside the small restaurant. The restaurant was quite decent in terms of sitting arrangements. There is a very small kitchen where the Roti is baked in a tandoor and a Chulah (earthen stove) on which the large vessel is kept to keep the paya hot and ready to serve. The aroma in the restaurant is very appetising.

No matter in which part of the world you live, if you are a Non-vegetarian , you may have early morning cravings for Non-vegetarian food. Today instead of having the usual, I decided to have an authentic Nawabi breakfast ie KHAMIRI ROTI - PAYA.

An Introduction to PAYA & KHAMIRI ROTI :-
PAYA: The origin of Paya is Central Asia which was introduced to South Asia by Mughals. The dish was adapted to the local cuisines by the Muslim cooks of Lahore, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
Subsequently, Paya became popular all over present-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is also available in restaurants serving Indian and Pakistani cuisines outside South Asia. It is especially very famous in Punjab region of Pakistan, Lucknow and Hyderabad.
KHAMIRI ROTI: Khamiri roti is the mughals closest answer to leavened bread. Khamir, which means yeast, is used to prepare this roti, thus making it thick and spongy. It is generally served with paya.
The city of Nawabs, Lucknow, is deprived of early morning breakfast culture. When we talk about having non-vegetarian food , this city becomes a desert for the people who wish to have their favourite non-veg meal in the morning. There are very few places in lucknow which opens up early in the morning and serve freshly prepared hot meal. One of the places, which I was recommended for an early morning non-vegetarian breakfast, is the RAJA HOTEL which is situated in Charbagh, Lucknow.

I ordered for an half-plate paya and a khameeri roti for the start. By my surprise, my order was served to me within a minute and the meal was hot, fresh and it was tempting. When i tasted the first morsel of paya and roti together it was a delight. The gravy of the Paya was not at all spicy but really flavorsome, which made my drowsiness go away.
So, THE HUNGRY INDIAN SOUL recommends this place which is not a family restaurant where you can relax or enjoy the air-conditioned ambience but a food joint where you can ask for your favorite meal for a take away. The rates of this restaurant is low-priced. So, whenever you crave for a non-vegetarian dish early in the morning, visit the RAJA HOTEL, Charbagh, Lucknow.
