Famous luckhnavi Mughlai restaurant : ALAMGIR HOTEL

 how are you all?. I hope you all are having good food because, good food is the way to a happy mind.
So just 2 days back i was in Aminabad, lucknow looking for some gifts for my li'l sister. After 2-3 hours of shopping when i reached the level of starvation, i consulted the local shopkeepers for the famous and authentic MUGHLAI restaurant. Out of 5 guys, three of them suggested me about the ALAMGIR HOTEL.
Then i took a 5 minute walk from the aminabad chauraha and started looking for the place. By my surprise i found the restaurant in a narrow lane which was not  only dingy but it was poorly constructed.


 After walking 30 steps i located the restaurant. As i was walking closer and closer to the restaurant, the aroma from the big vessels in which the mughlai preparations were cooked made an instant impression on my mind. I forgot about all the roads and the walls and my whole focus went on how to get the food..!





                       The owner of the Alamgir Hotel has bought 2 shops next to the cooking area and has turned it in FAMILY RESTAURANT (where you can dine with your family, air conditioned and great lighting) and other was for the normal gentry.

So i went into the family restaurant and i sat in the very center of the restaurant so that i can take a look around and see what the people were ordering. After scrolling through the MENU card and looking around each and every table i ordered a MUTTON BANDGHOSHT (which i have never heard of earlier, and an alamgir speciality) and BUTTER CHICKEN (another speciality). After i ordered my meal i was adviced by the service staff that their BUTTER CHICKEN is prepared  WHITE gravy. I was really surprised to hear this as i never had a WHITE BASED BUTTER CHICKEN before.
THE ORDER CAME TO ME IN JUST 2 MINUTES.



Both being a non veg dish, i was recommended by the staff who was attending me, that i should have the preparation either with Sheermal or Kulcha. 
SHEERMAL OR SHIRMAL :  (Persian: شیرمال; Urdu: شیرمال "shyrmal"), is a saffron-flavored traditional flatbread made in IranBangladesh,AwadhLucknow region and Hyderabad, India, probably from Persian influences. It is one of the several rare Lucknow and Hyderabadi delicacies in India
KULCHA : KULCHA is an Indian bread made out of flour and baked in an tandoor made out of mud.
I ordered both of the indian bread , and THE HUNGRY INDIAN SOUL went on for his first bite.




THE MUTTON BANDGOSHT : is a mutton dish which is cooked with pieces of mutton, PAPAYA to soften the meat, indian spices and milk to balance the spice.
This particular dish was cooked for 3-4 hours so that mutton could be cooked till perfection and it helps enhance the flavour of the gravy. It was bit spicy but when consumed with the KULCHA ,balanced the spice and the taste came out much more better. 


It was time for me to have the BUTTER CHICKEN prepared in white gravy. The butter chicken was really delicious , there were no strong spices and it had lots of Cashews in it,  which gave a Royal taste to it. THE HUNGRY INDIAN SOUL will recommend it to all the parents who have small child and cannot handle spicy food,order this dish because they will love it as the chicken is really tender.

THE FOOD WAS REALLY HEAVY BUT I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO FINISH IT.

AND NOW, it was the time for my favorite part THE DESSERT.




I heard of famous SHAHI TUKDA,which mean 'ROYAL PIECE', which is made of common bread dipped in saffron+sugar syrup , with a layer of malai (cream) on the top garnished with ALMOND shavings.
The SHAHI TUKDA right away made me fell in love with it , because the sweet bread+the cream and almond shavings compliments each other so beautifully that automatically becomes the SHOW-STOPPER.

THE HUNGRY INDIAN SOUL rates this restaurant ***/5 stars , and would advice you all to visit atleast once to taste the authentic Mughlai meal with your Family.
